During the beginning of his career he served as an assistant to both Tolly Burkan (The Firewalking Center) and Peggy Dylan (Sundoor) who are considered the founders of the American Firewalking movement.

John also trained and certified Charles Horton as a Firewalking Instructor who is currently the owner of the Firewalking Institute of Research and Educations (F.I.R.E.). He was co-author with Gail Baiman and Charles Horton of the first Firewalking Instructor Manual which has been used by the Firewalking Institute of Research and Education as it primary training manual.

He has trained and served Firewalking Instructors associated with the Tony Robbins organization in Indonesia, China and Bali.

He is a Teacher of Teachers and has certified some of the top motivational speakers from around the world in the art of experiential education. His ability to convey to others how to simplify the most difficult tasks into concepts that can be successfully consumed by participants makes him a sought after presenter and instructor.

John has been called a "Firewalking Legend" by members of the International Firewalking community because of his long and distinguished career beginning as an assistant to the two founding members of the International Firewalking movement Tolly Burkan and Peggy Dylan and his participation in the early development and evolution of the Firewalking movement for over twenty five years. He helped facilitate as Geraldo Rivera was taught to walk on Fire before a 19 million viewer television audience. He provided the first MTV Firewalk for Road Rules. He served as an Firewalking consultant for the CBS Survivor television program. He has been a media Firewalking consultant for many years. He was a member of the first group of Firewalking Instructors to be recognized as Certified F.I.R.E. Master Instructors by the Firewalking Institute of Education.

John is recognized as a Certified Professional Speaker by the National Speakers Association as one who provides keynotes, motivational, and experiential presentations. He is a dedicated and tireless volunteer for countless public service projects involving drug prevention in youth, protection of law enforcement families, eco tourism, founding member of his Rotary Club in 1976, birding, ecological preservation and international world peace projects. He is an accomplished seminar leader who has the unique ability to extract from participants a strong personal recognition of their own power. He teaches them how to be their own "Guru".

There is a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors. Through John's seminars he teaches the concept of aligning oneself with the Elemental of Fire and the power of Nature in order to help seminar participants find their sense of inner balance. This renewed sense of balance reinstates their ability to maintain a centeredness while experiencing a new freedom from fear. “Once you face your fear and integrate it, you can use the energy released to provide the necessary impetus to successfully accomplish virtually any goal! Fear can be our friend if we embrace it, utilize it, and forbid fear from disabling our power." Even the most subtle fears should be recognized, integrated, and dissolved.

Keen insights are most frequently acquired through experience. The vision necessary to lead or participate fully is learned by doing. Even our muscles, (including the one most commonly overlooked "muscle"...our brain) has memory tissue that must be exercised in order to reach full potential. John has spent more than 40 years of his life studying with some of the true visionary thinkers on the planet in order to hone his insights of human behavior. His “Hawk” like perspective is taught to participants by sharing the knowledge of what motivates human behavior. John’s quest for Mastery in all the disciplines that he studies has provided the focus necessary to seek excellence.

Choosing to love Nature rather than fear Nature is the first step in allowing the powerful force, of which we are all a part, to teach us the truths that bring grace, health, joy, peace, and wisdom into our lives.

Firewalking Instructor Certification (teaching individuals how to walk on Fire) and Fire Master Instructor Certification (teaching individuals how to certify students how to teach qualified individuals to become Certified Firewalking Masters) is provided either as an individual or group experience. John was the first Firewalking Instructors to become certified as a F.I.R.E. Master Instructor by the Firewalking Institute of Research and Education. He has since created his own Eagle Heart Center Certified Firewalking Instructor Program. John is also a co-arthor of the first Firewalking Instructor Manual.

The National Speakers Association has recognized John as a Professional Speaker where he is a member of the Motivational and International Professional groups since 1999. . Since 1996 he has certified many Firewalking Instructors from the United States, Sweden, South Korea, Norway, France, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Monaco, Borneo, Puerto Rico, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, China, Bali, Germany, Costa Rica, and Switzerland.

Throughout the years John has left no stone unturned in his effort to provide high quality seminars which meet the unique needs of each client. He draws from the experience of his extensive worldwide travels to help participants gain "Empowering Distinctions" which enable each of them to reach levels of "Uncommon Certainty" known by few, yet recognized by all. John has proviced Firewalking Experiences for the MTV television program Road Rules. He has also provided technical support for the CBS program "Survivor" in the Pearl Islands near Panama.

As a very active environmentalist John is in his twelfth year of a personally financed reforestation project in Costa Rica. 97% of the dry forest there has been destroyed. He is currently establishing a 501 (c) 3 foundation to continue purchasing farm land that will be returned to it natural state and even enhanced by planting "old growth trees" which can take up to 50 years to mature, and thus have little commercial value compared to other varieties. John has been quoted as saying, "We are either part of the problem, or part of the solution. I choose in my small way to be part of giving back to Nature. I am the solution at the lowest level." He has purchased 22 hectares near Parritas, Costa Rica which is managed by his son Beau. Our love of the people of Costa Rica and their dedication to peace and the protection of their natural resources have inspired this project which we call "Portal Celestial" or "Heaven's Gate".

For more than twenty years John has served as a keynote speaker for honor graduates and acted as a master of ceremonies for law enforcement honorary banquets. His clear, concise presentation style and inspiring personal stories about the power of goal setting and intentional living make him a desired speaker. Meeting the clients needs with a professional, on time, on purpose attitude has provide many requests for repeat performances.

John has received many Rotary International awards including one of Rotary International'shighest awards, membership in the District Roll of Fame Award for his many years of service above self. He is a founding member of his Rotary Club and has held virtually every office. He has helped sustain a senior citizens Holiday Party for over 30 years and has helped raise over $800,000.00 for charitable purposes.

John has worked with Margaret Kelly, CEO of REMAX, International interviews during their now famous "Fire and Ice" motivational event televised worldwide to REMAX agents around the globe. The REMAX Firewalk was especially challenging since is was conducted indoors under the watchful eyes of the local Fire Marshall's office. All participants walked safely across the fire without a single burn. In fact, many commented that the fire was ICE COLD! The officer in charge congratulated our Fire Tender Craig van der Smissen upon the excellent way that he conducted all preparatory elements of this event. As always the Firewalk venue was left exactly as we found it...with no damage. We have a commitment to protecting the environment and respecting the guidance of all Fire Marshall's and other Fire officials.
